Canal boat holiday in Cheshire fans 'could soon visit The Heart of Africa'

Families who love canal boat holidays in Cheshire could soon be able to experience a new area of Chester Zoo, it has been revealed.

The zoo has submitted a planning application for the creation of a biodome that will expand its size by 30 per cent.

The Heart of Africa will be a 34-metre high tropical environment that will include gorillas, chimpanzees and similar animals.

Gordon McGregor, director general of Chester Zoo, highlights the fact that many consultations with local people have underpinned the plans.

He asserts: 'The consultations enabled us to take a view on how the development could help us meet local aspirations and to address any concerns that may arise.'

More facilities to make the establishment accessible to people, such as those on canal boat holidays in Cheshire, also form part of the plans.

Chester Zoo has a total of 7,000 animals from 400 different species, including examples of some of the most endangered creatures in the UK.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19541166-ADNFCR
