New deal will improve Foxton Locks maintenance

The management of one of the UK's major waterway tourist attractions is to change, which could impact on those on canal boat holidays in Leicestershire.

A Heritage Partnership Agreement has been signed by English Heritage, Leicestershire County Council, Harborough District Council and British Waterways that will aim to keep the Foxton Locks site better maintained.

The area is a designated conservation area and contains a number of ancient monuments that regularly draw in those on canal boat holidays in Leicestershire.

Dennis Maney, British Waterways' heritage adviser, claims that the deal is a major step forward.

He stated: 'We have worked extremely hard over the last few years improving the Foxton site for visitors, whilst still respecting and protecting the historical importance of the site.'

Those on canal boat holidays in Leicestershire who are tempted to visit the site will also be able to enjoy its side ponds, museums and the Foxton Locks Inn.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19593585-ADNFCR
