Caledonian Canal gets marketing push

Efforts are underway to increase the appeal of the Caledonian Canal among those on canal boat holidays in Scotland.

VisitScotland has joined forces with British Waterways to showcase the benefits of holidaying in the region rather than heading overseas for a summer break.

Chairman of VisitScotland Mike Cantlay commented: 'Holidaying on home turf is a growing trend and one which we're seizing with both hands.

'Even those who have lived in Scotland their whole lives will find that there is still much for them to explore and discover.'

The Caledonian Canal runs through four natural lochs and continues through Scotland's beautiful scenery, passing a number of top attractions along the way.

British Waterways recently urged those on UK canal boat holidays to take extra care when enjoying the water, especially with children.

It said that although the water can look appealing for a dip on summer days, there may be hazards beneath the surface that can cause harm.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19871787-ADNFCR
