Scotland canal boat holidays: Native woodlands mapped for first time

A pioneering project to map the native woodlands of Scotland is currently underway and has met its first milestone.

It is being carried out by Forestry Commission Scotland and aims to find out more about the local area to make it more sustainable for future generations.

This will mean those on Scotland canal boat holidays will be able to enjoy their surroundings for years to come, providing the fight against climate change and other environmental changes is successful.

Environment minister Roseanna Cunningham commented: 'If we are to see our efforts have the maximum effect then we need to know exactly what resource we have to work with.'

She added that the survey is hugely important in order to protect and enhance the natural landscape and wildlife of Scotland.

Forestry Commission Scotland was created on April 1st 2003 and advises the Scottish government on policy and management of forest estates.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19767975-ADNFCR
