Scotland canal boat holidays: Woodland areas receive investment

Urban woodlands are to be improved in a number areas of Scotland, those on canal boat holidays in the country will soon realise.

A total of 14 projects have been given a share of £407,000, which include parts of Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Orkney and Dundee.

It is hoped that the investment will lead to improvements that encourage young people to make the most of their natural surroundings and learn more about the environment.

'Funding to help revitalise or support woodland based projects can open up many more opportunities, not only for access and recreation but importantly for outdoor learning,' commented environment minister Roseanna Cunningham.

She added that the project would also help to improve the lifestyles of local residents and those who visit Scotland for a variety of purposes.

Woodlands in the country were recently mapped for the first time by Forestry Commission Scotland to determine how they can benefit future generations.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19799051-ADNFCR
