Canal boat holidays in Shropshire: Heritage boatyard to open

A new heritage boatyard will be opened at the National Waterways Museum next week for people on canal boat holidays in Shropshire to enjoy.

Having secured £100,000 in funding towards it operation, the site at Ellesmere Port will be used to maintain and restore historic boats as well as providing a place for visitors to view the collection, Waterscape reports.

It will be officially opened by Tony Hales, chairman of British Waterways, in a ceremony on March 19th.

'The creation of a Heritage Boatyard at the National Waterways Museum presents a fantastic opportunity to enrich the visitor experience at the museum, to engage and involve young people and to conserve the nationally important historic boat collection,' Roger Hanbury, chief executive of the Waterways Trust, told the website.
