Volunteers rewarded with canal boat holiday in Staffordshire

Volunteers who worked to improve the waterways of stoke have been rewarded with a canal boat holiday in Staffordshire.

The workers will take a trip along the Trent and Mersey Canal to see the difference their efforts have made to the banks of the waterway.

Louise North, project officer of the Canals for the Community venture, commented that the volunteers have learned new skills while improving the local surroundings for people and wildlife.

'We've had some fantastic volunteers taking part in the project this year and the boat trips are a really nice way for us to thank them for all their hard work,' she added.

Ms North went on to encourage those who want to make a difference to their local community to volunteer for the Trent and Mersey Canal clean up in 2010.

Earlier this week, British Waterways announced that its annual canal spring clean will take place next year from March 1st to 14th.
