Be green on canal boat holidays

People need to ensure they do not lose their green credentials when they go on breaks such as canal boat holidays, it has been suggested.

Sue Hurdle, chief executive of the Travel Foundation, highlighted that there are a variety of reasons why people are less concerned about the environment while on holiday.

She claimed that people are more interested in kicking back and relaxing than worrying about how much water they are using, for example.

There are a number of simple measures people can take, the expert continued, such as 'spending an extra pound or two on a locally made souvenir to make sure our holidays benefit the people who live there'.

Another key consideration is recycling, as Ms Hurdle called on people to reuse plastic bags rather than contribute to the 'waste mountain'.

Of those recently questioned by Greener Holidays, 49 per cent said they do what they can to help the environment at home, but do not replicate this while they are away.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19866348-ADNFCR
