Bridge restoration 'will expand options for canal boat holidays'

Fans of canal boat holidays will soon be able to take in the site of the renovated Bridge 20 near Stenson, it has been revealed.

The structure, which is a listed building, collapsed in 2008 after standing over the Trent and Mersey Canal for over 200 years.

A total of £250,000 is being invested in the restoration project, which will see the bridge restored using a number of the original bricks, as well as locally-sourced examples that closely match the style.

Darren Green, waterway manager for the Central Shires, claimed that the rebuilding will be done so sensitively that it will stand for another 200 years.

He explained: 'As the body responsible for protecting the rich heritage of the waterways network, this restoration is incredibly important to British Waterways.'

In other news, efforts are being made to foster community relations between the team restoring the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and residents in the local area, fans of canal boat holidays may be interested to discover.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19566252-ADNFCR
