Canal boat holidays 'benefit from Liverpool's numerous waterways projects'

A number of projects focusing on Liverpool's waterways have been nominated for top awards, fans of canal boat holidays may be interested to discover.

The Pride in our Promenades, Torrs Weir Fish Pass and River Mersey Fish and Wildlife Refuge and the Liverpool Canal Link have all received nods at the 2010 Waterways Renaissance Awards, the Liverpool Echo has reported.

Run each year by the Waterways Trust (WT) and the British Urban Regeneration Association, the ceremony recognises best practice in sustainable waterway development throughout Britain.

Roger Hanbury, chief executive of the WT, has highlighted the contribution that campaigns of this sort make to fans of canal boat holidays.

He told the newspaper: 'The projects show that the renaissance of our waterways is continuing to transform our environment, bringing communities together and injecting new life into their environment.'

Earlier this week, British Waterways' chief executive Robin Evans praised the UK's canals as a national resource that must be protected.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19617036-ADNFCR
