Canal boat holidays in the UK: Fundraiser's 127-mile journey

People on canal boat holidays in the UK may have spotted a charity fundraiser this weekend, who embarked on an epic trek along the Grand Union Canal.

Phil McGaffin, who lives in Leamington Spa, began the 127-mile journey in Paddington, London, on Friday (May 19th), BBC News reports.

His journey along the Grand Union Canal is a bid to raise money for Sport Relief 2010, Help for Heroes and the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Despite suffering from prostate cancer himself, Mr McGaffin hoped to finish his walk in time to get to work in Worcestershire today(May 22nd), having already gathered almost £2,000 for the charities he is raising money for.

The Grand Union Canal, which came into being in its present form in 1929, is a favourite with those on canal boat holidays in Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, as its routes extend from Brentford in London to the West Midlands.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19681705-ADNFCR
