Canal boat holidays in the UK: More people are staying inland for breaks

People looking for the perfect break don't have to go abroad to take part in exciting leisure pursuits, according to the British Leisure Show.

James Brooke, managing director of the show, said that the UK has an 'extraordinary amount to offer', such as canal boat holidays in the UK, which can be enjoyed without the expense of going abroad.

'I think there is a general resurgence of it [holidaying inland] and people are actually actively going out and looking for what is available,' he added.

Mr Brooke went on to say that people are looking for better value holidays that the whole family can benefit from.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that in the 12-month period leading to January, the number of visits abroad by UK residents declined by 15 per cent compared with the previous year, suggesting that more people are considering options like canal boat holidays in the UK.
