Celebrations mark 200 years of canal boat holidays

An event has taken place to mark the 200th anniversary of one of the country's historic canals, it has been revealed.

The Clayton Wharf area of the Leeds Liverpool Canal is marking its bicentenary, the Lancashire Telegraph reports, with plenty of people on hand to join in the fun.

Visitors were given the opportunity to get on board the short boat Kennet, which is one of the last vessels to be spared of conversion still in operation on the canal.

It proved a fun day out for all the family, with cake stalls, balloon sales and a big jigsaw for people to take part in.

Mayor of Hyndburn Malcom Pritchard also made an appearance with his wife to mark the historic occasion.

Earlier this month, canal boat owners were told of a number of changes to their licences by British Waterways, including additional charges for credit card transactions.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19854027-ADNFCR
