Glow worms could be spotted on canal boat holidays

UK canal boat holidays could become all the more exciting as one Hertfordshire resident has spotted glow worms along one particular stretch of water.

Sue Rickard saw the unusual creatures at the Grand Union Canal, where they were common back in the 1970s.

'I've recorded spotting them as part of British Waterways' national wildlife survey to help their ecologists identify the different species that live along our canals and rivers,' Ms Rickard explained.

She encouraged others to head out and see what they can find along the UK's canals, which have reported sightings of terrapins, water voles and even otters over recent weeks.

Families can even enjoy seeing what UK canals have to offer throughout the summer holidays, British Waterways suggested.

The group recently called on parents to keep an eye on their children on canal boat holidays, especially as the water can seem particularly appealing for swimming in on hot days.  ADNFCR-2853-ID-800017583-ADNFCR
