Holidaymakers have discovered Britain, says expert

An increasing number of people are finding value from breaks in the UK, it has been suggested.

Although people are still keen to go overseas, Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, believes holidaymakers now realise what is on their doorsteps.

'Last year there was a rise [in domestic tourism] and I think it has just maintained itself. We've discovered Britain. I don't think it will change anytime soon,' she explained.

Ms Livingston emphasised that people now consider Britain as a holiday destination, whereas they might not have done in the past.

According to a study commissioned by VisitBritain, the total value of tourism to the UK is set to rise by more than 60 per cent to £188 billion over the course of the next ten years.

The report calculates that the total economic contribution that home and overseas visitors make to the UK currently stands at £115 billion a year.ADNFCR-2853-ID-800019000-ADNFCR
