Kennet and Avon canal to be commemorated in artwork

People on canal boat holidays in the UK have learned that a special work has been commissioned from Bath artist Alan Dun, celebrating 200 years of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The canal, which marks its bicentenary this year, will be immortalised in a cast iron sundial mounted on a plinth of Bath stone, which will feature references to the history of the waterway.

Mr Dun was pleased to be able to work on the project, saying the Kennet and Avon Canal is a green route through the city and a 'showcase of industrial heritage'.

'I hope that the piece I am creating, which incorporates the sundial, will be a welcome addition to the towpath and help people appreciate the canal now and in the future,' he added.

Meanwhile, those seeking art on canal boat holidays in the UK can pay a visit to Ellesmere, where an international exhibition of sculptures is running until August 31st.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19846837-ADNFCR
