Learn about creepy crawlies on canal boat holidays

Those taking canal boat holidays in Bristol this weekend will be able to get involved in an event that sheds light on the many residents of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

This Saturday (May 22nd) will see a number of activity workshops taking place, with ecologists from British Waterways on hand to explain all about the local wildlife.

It coincides with the 200th anniversary of the Kennet and Avon Canal and will hopefully give visitors a greater appreciation of their surroundings.

Leela O'Dea, British Waterways environment manager, said: 'If you have an interest in knowing what slithers, flaps and swims along our canals then this series of interactive workshops are the perfect opportunity for you to find out more.'

She added that there are so many species living on the banks of the canal, including grass snakes, dragonflies and even lizards.

British Waterways recently invited people along over the bank holiday weekend to see what the country's canals have to offer.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19790268-ADNFCR
