Lockside cottage 'highlights canal boat holidays'

A couple who have restored their own lockside cottage alongside the Rochdale Canal have praised the pleasures of staying in a boat, those considering canal boat holidays may be interested to discover.

Jean and Mike Hamilton, who have owned the Slattocks Lock House since 2001, also have a narrowboat they spend their time touring the country in, the Middleton Guardian has reported.

The lock had fallen into disrepair until they bought the property and did up the waterway.

'[We were] the first boat to pass through our own lock for probably well over 50 years,' they explained.

Mike Hamilton said that they are privileged to look after this part of Britain's heritage and highlight its beautiful aspect.

Gap Adventures managing director John Warner recently claimed that the most common break duration for those on canal boat holidays is a fortnight.

He said that this gives people enough time to explore the areas of interest and to take part in its activities.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19587971-ADNFCR
