Most canal boat holidaymakers 'pleased with quality of trips'

Three-quarters of those taking canal boat holidays over the past 12 months have either been completely satisfied or had a better than expected time, new research shows.

Over eight in ten believe that the British waterways offer good value for money, while a similar number believe that the upkeep of canals is either excellent or satisfactory, according to a survey by British Waterways.

Commenting on the findings, the public corporation's operations director Vince Moran explained that the survey results are 'invaluable' to prioritising spending for maintenance and other works on the canal, to continually improve visitors' experiences.

He said: 'Understanding boaters' attitudes towards the waterways and listening to the issues identified by NABO [National Association of Boat Owners] means that we can make sure that we spend our money as wisely as possible.

'Doing this will mean that the waterways are safer, easier to use and more pleasant places to spend time.'

Earlier this month, British Waterways completed a new access at the Crosse Hall Lane Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, to encourage people to use the local Tatton Recreation Ground for walking and cycling.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19793524-ADNFCR
