Solo UK canal boat holidays 'may become popular'

An increasing number of people are considering going on holiday by themselves, a new survey suggests.

Carried out by Leger Holidays, the poll found that around half of UK holidaymakers would travel by themselves, regardless of whether or not they are in a relationship.

Of those questioned, 34 per cent will be staying on home soil to take a break this year.

Women were found to be more cautious of travelling alone than their male counterparts, mainly due to concerns over personal security, the poll found.

Individual travellers are more likely to opt for short-haul destinations, such as canal boat holidays in the UK, as opposed to travelling long distances, the findings showed.

This follows a recent study from Trip Advisor that indicated 76 per cent of Britons will be taking a summer holiday this year, compared to just 11 per cent who are not.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19844465-ADNFCR
