Stay safe on UK canal boat holidays

Travellers need to make sure they stay safe while enjoying UK canal boat holidays, British Waterways has advised.

It said that children need to remain supervised at all times, which is emphasised through its SAFE (Stay Away From the Edge) campaign.

With temperatures soaring across the country, it may be tempting to take a dip in the canal, but the organisation strongly advises against doing this.

The water is likely to be colder than expected and there could be debris that cannot be seen floating beneath the surface.

Peter Wade, British Waterways safety advisor commented: 'There are plenty of ways to enjoy the waterways safely, from picnics and wildlife walks to joining canoeing clubs and just watching the boats go by.'

Those visiting the Montgomery Canal in Wales this summer will now be able to make the most of a new towpath, which has recently been regenerated.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19858968-ADNFCR
