Thrifty fun to be had on canal boat holidays

There are plenty of activities for families to get involved in over the bank holiday weekend, British Waterways has revealed.

With 2,000 miles of waterways to be explored, the organisation emphasised that people will not be short of things to do on canal boat holidays.

One of its suggestions is taking part in the British Waterways Wildlife Survey, which encourages people to log any creatures they may see along the country's canals.

Another option is to take a cycle ride and enjoy the scenery around UK waterways, while perhaps stopping for a picnic if the weather permits.

Failing that, a trip to a local pub can be a great way of enjoying the scenery and watching the world go by, it added.

One participant in the Wildlife Survey recently saw glow worms along the Grand Union Canal, which had not been widely reported in the area since the 1970s.ADNFCR-2853-ID-800023223-ADNFCR
