Waterways Renaissance Awards winners announced

People on canal boat holidays in the UK have been told that canals and river projects around the country have been recognised at this year's Waterways Renaissance Awards.

The awards, which are organised by the Waterways Trust, have 11 categories of entry including Design & Construction, Historic Environment, Recreation & Tourism and Area-based Regeneration.

In a ceremony hosted by former BBC political editor north west Jim Hancock at the Lowry in Manchester yesterday (March 17th), a number of nominations were judged by an independent panel of conservation and regeneration experts.

British Waterways walked away with no less than six awards, while other notable winners included the Erewash Canal Access Strategy, the Great Glen Ways Initiative and Liverpool Canal Link.

The Waterways Trust recently launched an appeal, backed by wildlife presenters Miranda Kestovnikoff and Mike Dilger, to provide homes for some of the UK's endangered species of waterway birds such as grey wagtails, sedge warblers and barn owls.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19677239-ADNFCR
