Canal boat holidays in Wales 'prioritised over winter breaks'

Nearly 20 per cent more people are changing their winter break destinations, which could lead more to take canal boat holidays in Wales during the summer.

Figures published by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) show that people are prioritising their summer break.

However, 16 per cent of canal boat holidays in Wales users have listed their winter break as a secondary priority.

David Trunkfield, leisure director at PwC, says that people are often booking far later due to their financial uncertainty.

He says: 'These winter breaks which act as a second holiday remain under pressure … Consumers [will] stay focused on paying back debt and saving for a summer main holiday.'
Despite last year's trends, those who were unable to find a late deal could look to book their break earlier.

Earlier this week, narrowboat dweller Jim Redhead told the Leicester Mercury that those on canal boat holidays in Leicestershire are still warm despite the otherwise icy conditions due to the coal burners used to heat these vessels.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19546222-ADNFCR
