Work underway to preserve legacy of canal

Plans are in motion to safeguard the legacy of a project that has been taking place along the Pontcysyllte and Llangollen Canal World Heritage Site corridor.

A Friends Group has been established to ensure the project is safeguarded for the enjoyment of future generations after it comes to its official end.

It delivers a wide range of benefits to both locals and those on canal boat holidays in Wales, including wildlife habitat creation schemes and environmental audits.

Community development officer Piers Warburton, who is leading the project, emphasised that a wide range of groups, including businesses and schools, have been on hand to ensure the scheme is a success.

He continued: 'Community participation has been at the heart of this project from the outset, so it is fitting we hand over a vibrant and dynamic shared vision when the project officially ends next year.'

It was recently suggested by Mike Morgan, spokesperson for Welsh Rarebits, that people are heading to Wales on canal boat holidays to sample the many foods from the country.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19849575-ADNFCR
