Canal boat holidays in Wiltshire: School raises cash for waterway

People on canal boat holidays in Wiltshire have been told that a local school has donated £600 towards the restoration of the Wiltshire and Berkshire canal in Chippenham.

Redland Primary School pupils held a party to celebrate 25 years of service by headteacher Hilary Walton, which raised £1,200 to be split equally between Help for Heroes and the trust that looks after the waterway, the Gazette and Herald reports.

Rob Jones, chairman of the Melksham, Chippenham and Calne branch of Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal Trust, told the paper: 'We were delighted to receive such a large sum from such a fun event and to be able to show the children how it will be spent on local projects.'

Meanwhile, the newspaper also reports that people on canal boat holidays in Wiltshire may benefit from the charity's sponsored walk next month, which will reveal a stretch of the waterway normally hidden from the public.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19710689-ADNFCR
