Lock gates 'to enhance Caen Hill for those on canal boat holidays'

A number of new lock gates are going to be installed along the Caen Hill Flight of Locks, those on canal boat holidays in Wiltshire have been told.

The work will be conducted over the next 12 weeks as part of the £500,000 winter maintenance works being performed on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

British Waterways stated that the historic canal needs the work before it celebrates its bicentenary.

Mark Stephens, waterway manager for Kennet and Avon at British Waterway's Canal, claimed that it is fantastic to see the heritage structure being looked after.

He stated: 'Not only are there works going on at Caen Hill Flight, but we have also carried out significant works at Widmead and Garston Locks on the canal.'

The Bath Chronicle recently reported that Bradford-on-Avon has become a key destination for those on canal boat holidays in Wiltshire.

It highlighted its pubs and tearooms, as well as the area's history, as some of the big draws.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19574198-ADNFCR
