Canal boat holidays in Worcestershire 'becoming popular overseas'

The UK should do more to draw in people from the rest of the world to enjoy canal boat holidays in Worcestershire, an expert has claimed.

Kurt Janson, policy director at the Tourism Alliance, said that visitors from Brazil, Russia, India and China will become increasingly important in the next few years and Britain is often seen as a trophy destination.

He said that there is lots of competition between countries hoping to draw in these visitors and called for the barriers to these individuals visiting to be removed.

'The UK is the sixth most popular destination in the world and has some of the world's most well known tourism icons,' he explained.

Mr Janson says that the country must do as much as possible to encourage people to go on canal boat holidays in Worcestershire.

Recent research by Mintel showed that there have been 11.2 million trips to Britain in 2009, up 300,000 on 2008.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19553669-ADNFCR
