Worcestershire canal network 'comes in useful for maths students'

A number of maths students are making use of the Worcestershire canal network to help them with their learning, it has been revealed.

The numeracy through canals initiative is being run by Worcestershire County Council alongside Droitwich Spa's Westacre Middle School, the Droitwich Advertiser reports.

People on canal boat holiday in Worcestershire may see the youngsters at work between May 17th and July 8th.

Speaking to the paper, Judy Watkins, maths co-ordinator of Westacre Middle School, said: 'The canal project will be a fantastic opportunity for our pupils.

'We are sure that it will help them to become more confident as well as showing them how maths works in the real world.'

The first session will see children embarking on a canal boat ride, during which they will participate in a maths quiz.

Thousands of school children are believed to have missed out on their SATs tests yesterday (May 10th) as teachers boycotted the examinations up and down the country.ADNFCR-2853-ID-19770725-ADNFCR
