Shakespeare Country, Warwickshire & The Chilterns
The Grand Union Canal links London through the Chilterns with Birmingham via the longest canal in the UK. Cruise through rural Northamptonshire and Warwickshire home to William Shakespeare enjoying its landscapes, wildlife and heritage along the way. This canal has many branches so why not take time to explore some of these too.
There are some excellent stops to make along the way at places such as Stoke Bruerne, Hatton and Braunston. The Hatton flight is also known as the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ just west of Warwick and offers 21 locks in less than 2 miles. It is one of the most picturesque spots on the Grand Union Canal and The Waterman pub provides a welcome opportunity for recuperation near Hatton Top Lock.
Stoke Bruerne and Braunston are pretty old canal towns, the Canal Museum and Boat Inn at Stoke Bruerne are also worth a stop.
